As I predicted in June, Amazon has quietly launched read.amazon.com, a full-featured HTML 5 version of the Kindle that runs perfectly on the iPad, looks for all the world like a native application after it’s been added to the iPad home screen as an icon and can even store books to read offline. Goodbye, Apple app store. Read my thoughts on why they have done this over on ComputerWorldUK.

Oh wow, I didn’t predict it but I sure was running around saying “why is one of the leading cloud providers” not making a more “cloud like” (re: HTML5 + appropriate bits) Kindle Reader. Being locked to a device just screams the 90s, it’s great to see they’ve done this! I’m impressed, now for the others to follow suit. 🙂
And it’s a very cool application! Apple… you lose. Get used to it, it’s going to happen more and more often.
